Jain Conference thanks UPA for granting Jains minority status

Ludhiana/Amritrsar, January 22, 2014: Amrit Lal Jain, Varishth Jain Margdarshak of Shri All India Shwetamber Sthankwasi Jain conference (100 years old) has thanked the Union Cabinet for granting Jains a minority status throughout the country.

In a statement here, he added this demand of Jain community was pending for the last 65 years. Jain community is particularly thankful to AICC vice president Rahul Gandhi for pushing their proposal for grant of minority status to Jains with Dr. Manmohan Singh, Prime Minister.

He added now Jains will also get special rights under the Constitution which are granted to the religious minorities like Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, Buddhists and Parsis. He said the minority status to Jains will give a right to protect and promote Jainism which is thousands years old. Jain will manage their own educational institution without any interference and will get funds from the government under minority welfare programmes including 15 per cent of all government funds under various programmes for the minorities.

He added Jains will get a right under Article 25 & 26 to propagate their religion and also get the freedom to manage their religious affairs.
