“It’s a mirror to the silent struggles young men carry quietly”, Gagan Arora on how Amazon MX Player’s Lafangey captures the silent struggles of Indian youth

Mumbai, June 24, 2025: Amazon’s free streaming service, Amazon MX Player, unveiled its latest original series, Lafangey: Sapne, Dosti, Duniya, a raw, grounded, and emotionally charged coming-of-age tale in the often overlooked bylanes of Noida. At the center of the story are three childhood friends— Chaitanya, Rohan, and Kamlesh— navigating the tangled web of ambition, friendship, and societal pressure. Directed by Prem Mistry and written by Abhishek Yadav and boasting a talented cast featuring Gagan Arora, Anud Singh Dhaka, Barkha Singh, Harsh Beniwal, and Saloni Gaur in pivotal roles, Lafangey captures the unspoken struggles of India’s educated but under unemployed youth with warmth, humor, and honesty.
Speaking about what pulled him towards the project, Gagan Arora, who essays the role of Rohan, shared, “What really struck me about Lafangey was its authenticity. We’ve seen countless stories of bromance, fun, light-hearted, adventurous, but this one delves into something rarely spoken about: the quiet burden young men carry when they leave college. Overnight, you are expected to have it all figured out. If you don’t, you’re labelled a ‘Lafanga’. Even if no one says it out loud, that label lingers and you start to wear it.”
He further added, “I resonated with that deeply. I’ve been there myself. Coming from a middle-class background, I’ve felt the awkwardness of asking for money, the urgency of wanting to be independent, and the guilt of not ‘doing enough’. So for me, the preparation wasn’t just about the script-it was about digging into my own lived experiences. Conversations with the director and writers helped ground it all, but at its core, Lafangey is about bringing that truth to the surface. It’s a mirror to the silent struggles young men carry quietly.”
