IPL 2025 Postponed Indefinitely Amid India-Pakistan Tensions; Punjab-Delhi Match in Dharamshala Abruptly Cancelled

Dharamshala, May 9, 2024: In the wake of escalating tensions between India and Pakistan following Operation Sindoor, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has indefinitely postponed the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL). The tournament, which was being hosted across various Indian cities, came to a sudden halt, including the high-profile clash between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals in Dharamshala on Thursday night.

The match, underway at the picturesque HPCA Stadium, was abruptly stopped following reports of missile and bomb attacks exchanged between the two countries. At approximately 9:28 PM, the floodlights were switched off, plunging the stadium into a blackout. Security agencies swiftly moved in to evacuate the players and spectators.

Speaking on the matter, ASP Kangra, Shalini Agnihotri, stated that within 20 minutes, the stadium was cleared and all spectators were safely escorted out. “Our first priority was the safety of everyone present. Both teams’ players were immediately removed from the ground and shifted to their respective hotels under tight security,” she said.

By Friday morning, the entire contingents of both teams, including players, coaching staff, and broadcast personnel, were moved in around 40 to 50 small vehicles from Dharamshala to Hoshiarpur, located at the Punjab border. This convoy was escorted by the Kangra Police. Upon reaching Hoshiarpur, the Punjab Police took over the security arrangements and transported the groups to Jalandhar Railway Station.

From Jalandhar, a special train was arranged to carry the teams and associated staff to Delhi, ensuring their safe transit amid heightened security alerts.
