International Mother Language Day was celebrated by Punjabi Sahitya Sabha of Post Graduate Department of Punjabi of Lyallpur Khalsa College, Jalandhar. 

International Mother Language Day celebrated at Lyallpur Khalsa College

Jalandhar, February 21, 2023: The International Mother Language Day was celebrated by the Punjabi Sahitya Sabha of Post Graduate Punjabi Department of Lyallpur Khalsa College, an eminent academic institution of the North India. On this occasion, quiz competitions and painting competitions related to mother tongue Punjabi, Punjabi literature and culture were conducted. The students of different departments of the college participated in them with great enthusiasm. 

On this occasion, principal of the college, Prof. Jasreen Kaur, was the chief guest. Dr. Surinderpal Mand, Head of Department of Punjabi and Prof. Kuldeep Sodhi, Coordinator, Punjabi Sahitya Sabha welcomed all the attendees including the Principal and informed them about the importance of this program. Speaking on this occasion, Principal madam said that today, where efforts are being made to save mother tongues at the global level, we should also make suitable efforts for the development, promotion and dissemination of our mother tongue Punjabi. He shared valuable thoughts about the rich heritage of the Punjabi language. 

Speaking on this occasion, Dr. Surinderpal Mand, Head of Post-Graduate Punjabi Department, said that in this modern and technological era of globalization, we should all venture together to deal with the challenges faced by the mother tongue Punjabi. He said that the purpose of such programs designed at the academic level is to connect the students with Punjabi literature and culture. He said that the department and the Punjabi Sahitya Sabha are working continuously in this direction and such programs will be drawn up in the future as well. In the quiz competitions, the first place was won by the 'Ravi' team, the second place was won by the 'Sutlej' team and the third place was won by the Beas team.. Questionnaires for the quiz competitions were prepared by students Deepika, Lovepreet Kaur and Kavita Dhande. In the painting competitions, Prabhjot Singh (BA Sem-II) and Jaspreet Kaur won the first place, Lovepreet Kaur (MA Sem-II) won the second place, while Sahil Kumar (BA Sem-II) won the third place. 

Prizes were given to the winning students by Principal. Prof. Balraj Singh and Prof. Preeti played the role as stage conductors. In the end, Prof. Kuldeepal Sodhi thanked everyone. Prof. Manpreet Kaur, College Registrar, Dr. Harjinder Singh, Coordinator, Punjabi Folklore and Culture Center, Dr. Sukhdev Singh Nagra, Coordinator, Punjabi Language Development Center, Prof. Karanbir Singh, Prof. Ajitpal Singh, Prof. Bhavna, Prof. Satpal Singh were also present.
