Jalandhar, March 14, 2026: The P.G. Department of Computer Science & IT of PCM S.D. College for Women, Jalandhar organized a two-day International Conference on “Shaping a Sustainable Future with Artificial Intelligence (SSFWAI-26)”. Sponsored by the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF), the conference aimed to deliberate upon the growing role of Artificial Intelligence in addressing global challenges and building a sustainable technological future.
The conference began with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, symbolizing the dispelling of ignorance and the spread of knowledge. A floral welcome was then accorded to the dignitaries by Shri Vinod Dada, Senior Vice President of the Managing Committee, the worthy Principal Dr. Pooja Prashar, Mrs. Shivani Sharma, Honorary Advisor of the conference and Head of the P.G. Department of Computer Science & IT, and Dr. Lovely Sharma, Convenor of the Conference.
The welcome address was delivered by the worthy Principal Dr. Pooja Prashar, who highlighted the importance of Artificial Intelligence in shaping modern society and emphasized the role of academic institutions in promoting research and innovation in emerging technologies. This was followed by the introductory address by Dr. Lovely Sharma, Convenor of the conference, who acquainted the audience with the objectives and theme of the conference and emphasized the significance of Artificial Intelligence in creating sustainable solutions for contemporary challenges
The keynote address was delivered by Dr. Abhinav Dhall, Deputy Associate Dean (International) and Associate Professor at the Faculty of Information Technology, Monash University, Australia. In his enlightening address, he discussed the rapid advancements in Artificial Intelligence and its vast potential in solving real-world problems in areas such as healthcare, education, and industry. He also encouraged researchers and students to adopt interdisciplinary approaches while exploring AI technologies.
The conference continued with a series of insightful technical sessions delivered by distinguished academicians and experts from reputed institutions. Dr. Renu Dhir, Professor, Department of Computer Science & Engineering, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar National Institute of Technology, Jalandhar, spoke about the evolving landscape of Artificial Intelligence and highlighted the importance of ethical AI practices and responsible innovation.
Dr. Arun Malik, Professor and Associate Dean at Lovely Professional University, Phagwara, shared valuable insights into the integration of Artificial Intelligence with emerging technologies and emphasized how AI-driven systems are transforming industries and research methodologies.
Er. Tanvir Singh, Senior Programme Manager at the Spoken Tutorial Project, EduPyramids, SINE IIT Bombay, discussed the role of open learning platforms and digital initiatives in spreading technical education and enhancing skill development among students.
On the second day, the technical deliberations continued with expert lectures by eminent scholars.
Prof Dr Pooja Bhasin, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Lyallpur Khalsa College Technical Campus, Jalandhar was the Resource Person of the First Technical Session. She deliberated on the usage of AI as an all inclusive phenomenon in the contemporary times and its applications for sustainability.
Dr. Chander Kant, Professor, Department of Computer Science & Applications, Kurukshetra University, was the second resource person of the session. He highlighted the emerging research opportunities in Artificial Intelligence and stressed the need for collaborative research among institutions. He gave a practical demonstration with the biometric device.
Dr. Kuljit Kaur Chahal, Professor and Head, Department of Computer Science, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, was the resource person of the Second Technical Session. She spoke about recent developments in AI technologies and encouraged students to actively participate in research and innovation. She highlighted the pros and cons of AI-enabled tools warranting sustainability.
The conference concluded with the valedictory session, during which Dr. Santosh Kumar Vipparthi, Associate Professor and Head, School of Artificial Intelligence and Data Engineering, IIT Ropar, delivered the valedictory address. In his address, he elaborated on the future prospects of Artificial Intelligence and emphasized that sustainable development in the digital age requires responsible research, innovation, and strong collaboration between academia and industry.
As a token of appreciation, the dignitaries were presented with mementos in recognition of their valuable contributions to the conference.
The Vote of Thanks was presented by Shivani Sharma, Honorary Advisor of the conference and Head of the P.G. Department of Computer Science & IT, who expressed sincere gratitude to the distinguished speakers, participants, and the department, its Head, Shivani Sharma, Dr Lovely Sharma, Conference Convenor for their valuable contributions in making the conference a grand success.
