Mathura: Recent advancements in the field of joint replacement techniques has proved to be a game changer, increasing the quality life of the patients especially for the ones with severe knee and hip problems.

To highlight the benefits of undergoing joint replacement surgery and the improved quality of life of patients facing severe pain due to joint problems, Sarvodaya Hospital organised a patient centric mass awareness session.

Advancements in treatment methods of hip and knee problems are highly compatible with minimally invasive procedures, with quicker recovery and improved quality of life. 3D and Computer Navigated Bilateral hip replacements and Total knee replacements comes as the best and last resort for patients with joint deformities and ailments.

“Surgeries through Minimally Invasive techniques and involving technology, has provided an enhanced pathway for better recovery by providing patients with a better quality of life. We always try to treat the patients with joint problems by non-operative methods such as medicines, physiotherapy, exercises & precautions. However, in those patients where the condition is very severe and who do not respond well to non-operative methods, minimally invasive joint replacement surgery including hip replacement and total knee replacements  are a big relief which brings back them to normal daily life”  Said Dr Sujoy Bhattacharji, Director Sarvodaya Hospital and Research Center.

The interactive session highlighted upon cases of two patients who underwent joint replacement surgeries. Deepak, 36 year old male patient had been bed ridden for over 3 years due to a condition called avascular necrosis in his thigh bone and had lost his locomotion abilities. Even after continuous treatments at various hospitals, the condition could not be treated. Upon referral to Sarvodaya Hospital, the patient was thoroughly examined and investigated and prescribed to undergo minimally invasive hip replacement surgery that would allow him to walk again. He successfully underwent 3D and Computer Navigated Bilateral Hip replacement surgery and is now able to walk again without any complications. The patient is very happy ever since who once thought that he would have to spend rest of his life on bed. 

Similar is the case of Mr. Surajmal, 57 year old male, resident of Mathura, who went through a barbaric accident 6 years ago. Though emergency treatment saved his life, but ever since he had been living with excruciating pain in his knees. After two years of therapy from various hospitals, his pain didn’t subside and had started facing difficulties in physical movements to such an extent that he was unable to even stand on his own. He was advised for a bilateral Total knee replacement when he came to Sarvodaya Hospital. After undergoing successful Advanced Total Knee Replacement surgery, his quality of life has improved and is freely able to walk without any assistance.
