Chandigarh, January 8, 2026: National BJP Leader, Advocate Sukhminderpal Singh Grewal Bhukhri Kalan today issued an extremely strong and unambiguous condemnation of Aam Aadmi Party’s Opposition Leader Atishi for her shameful and disgraceful remarks on Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji inside the Delhi Vidhan Sabha.
Grewal stated through his official social media platforms including Facebook, LinkedIn, Pinterest, YouTube, Instagram, Threads and especially X that Atishi’s statements are not a slip of tongue but a clear reflection of her ignorance arrogance and utter lack of respect for Gurus religions and basic civilised language. He stated that a person who does not understand the stature of Guru Sahiban has no moral right to sit in any constitutional forum let alone speak on history faith or sacrifice.
He said that Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji the Ninth Guru of the Sikhs is revered not only by Sikhs but by the entire humanity as Hind Di Chadar who laid down His life for religious freedom human dignity and the right to belief. Any derogatory comment against such a divine and heroic figure is nothing short of sacrilege and ideological bankruptcy.
Grewal told that these disgraceful remarks have deeply hurt the religious sentiments of Sikhs across Bharat and the world. Such comments attack the very soul of Sikh faith and collective consciousness and cannot be brushed aside as political rhetoric or casual talk. No leader regardless of position has the licence to insult our Gurus or dilute their unmatched sacrifices.
He further said that this episode once again exposes Aam Aadmi Party’s repeated carelessness disrespect and political opportunism towards Sikh history traditions and emotions while shamelessly seeking Sikh votes during elections. The anger inside the Delhi Assembly and disruption of proceedings itself proves the seriousness of this insult.
Grewal categorically demanded that Atishi must offer an unconditional public apology to the Sikh community and immediately resign from the post of Leader of Opposition in Delhi Vidhan Sabha. Mere clarifications are an insult to the gravity of this offence. Moral accountability and constitutional responsibility demand nothing less than resignation.
He warned that such irresponsible and offensive statements by senior political leaders damage social harmony weaken mutual respect and poison the fabric of India’s plural society. He called upon all political parties and public representatives to exercise restraint sensitivity and responsibility while speaking on Gurus and sacred history and to uphold respect for every religion under all circumstances.
“Insulting our Gurus is not politics. It is disgrace. And the Sikh community will never tolerate it, he added”
