Industrial units operating in non-designated areas to be categorised under Mixed Land Use Area

Ludhiana, February 27, 2014: Upkar Singh Ahuja, General Secretary, Chamber of Industrial and Commercial Undertakings (CICU), Ludhiana said that more than 60% of the industrial units in Shimlapuri, New Janta Nagar and 73 other colonies were in a fix for being placed under non- designated area. The master plan Ludhiana was made without considering that these industrial Units operating in aforesaid localities. These units owners are incapacitated to deal with certain Departments such as Pollution Control Board, Punjab State Power Corporation Limited and District Industries Centre etc. for getting necessary clearances. Hence, they need to be included in Mix Land Use Areas.
Sharanjit Singh Dhillon, PWD Minister Punjab, CICU delegation and others requested Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal to declare aforesaid non-designated areas as industrial area.
Avtar Singh, President, CICU said that Punjab Government under the stewardship of Chief Minister Punjab has assured to resolve the aforesaid issue by granting permission to industrial units operating in non-designated areas to be considered as Mixed Land Use Area. This will indeed be a historic relief which will rightly accommodate the concerns of city based micro and small industrial units where both industry and common residences co-exist.
