India’s Growing Forensic Odontology Field Gets Global Spotlight at Sharda University

Greater Noida, August 24, 2026: The School of Dental Sciences, Sharda University organized an international invited talk on “Latest Trends & Technology in Forensic Odontology” featuring Dr. Aida Ben Chekh, a distinguished Forensic Odontologist from Paris. Dr. Aida, an expert in identification and traumatology at the Forensic Institute of Paris, also serves as Superintendent with the National Scientific Police Service and is a member of SWG DVI INTERPOL.
Forensic odontology, often referred to as dental forensics, is a specialized branch of dentistry that applies dental knowledge to legal investigations. It plays a crucial role in criminal cases and disaster victim identification by analysing teeth, bite marks, and oral structures to establish identity and uncover evidence of trauma. Globally recognized as a vital discipline, forensic odontology is now gaining significant momentum in India, where rising demand for forensic expertise in law enforcement, disaster management, and medico legal investigations is creating new opportunities for young dental professionals.
Dr. Aida shared her global expertise, motivating students to pursue excellence in forensic sciences. She informed them about the evolving landscape of the field, new technologies, and research opportunities. Appreciating the students’ research work, she said: “I was deeply impressed by the students' enthusiasm and their research work. It was particularly gratifying to see BDS students publishing research papers while still at the undergraduate level. Forensic odontology is a field where dental knowledge is applied to identification and investigation. Students should consistently focus on research and practical experience alongside learning new techniques, as this is what will prepare them to advance in this field.”
The session was coordinated by Dr. Parul Khare, In Charge of the Unit of Forensic Odontology, SDS, Sharda University. Welcoming Dr. Aida, she remarked: “Our endeavour has always been to integrate research and practical experience with academic learning for our students. Interacting with international experts offers students a fresh perspective on their subject. Dr. Aida’s experience was truly inspiring for our students and boosted their enthusiasm for research.”
The event also showcased student projects, posters, and research papers. Dr. Aida expressed her admiration for the academic rigor at Sharda University, noting with pleasant surprise that even undergraduate BDS students had published indexed papers in reputed journals.
This international engagement underscores Sharda University’s commitment to advancing forensic sciences and inspiring young scholars to contribute meaningfully to the evolving landscape of forensic odontology. With India increasingly recognizing the importance of forensic expertise in strengthening its justice and healthcare systems, such collaborations highlight the country’s growing role in shaping the future of this discipline.
