Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee, Celebrates Teachers’ Day

Roorkee, Uttarakhand, September 5, 2026: IIT Roorkee celebrated Teachers’ Day on 5th September at MAC Auditorium. The program started with a tribute to late Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan. Director of IIT Roorkee Prof. K.K. Pant, Deputy Director Prof. Praveen Kumar, Dean of Faculty Affairs Prof. Anand Bulusu, other Deans, Associate Deans and Heads of the Department were present on this occasion.
 
On the occasion of Teachers’ Day, the following faculty members were given “Excellence in Teaching and Research Awards for the year 2026” for their outstanding performance in teaching. 

1)    Bestowal of Excellence in Teaching Award – 2026:
•    UG (>80 students): Prof. Vinod Pankajakshan, Electronics & Communication Engineering
•    UG (31–80 students): Prof. Sanjeev Kumar, Mathematics
•    UG Young Faculty (31+ students): Prof. Ramanuja Panigrahi, Electrical Engineering
•    PG (10+ students): 1) Prof. Manil T. Mohan, Mathematics; 
2)    Prof. Rajarshi Chakravarti, Earth Sciences
•    PG Young Faculty (10+ students): Prof. Srikrishnan S. Subramanian, CoEDMM

2)    Prof. Ameeya K. Nayak, Department of Mathematics   has been selected for the Prof. Bal Krishna ‘Outstanding Teacher Award (2026).

3)    Prof. Vinay Sharma, Department of Management Studies, and Prof. Vimal Chandra Srivastava, Department of Chemical Engg., have been selected jointly for the Ramkumar Prize for Outstanding Teaching & Research (2026).

4)    Prof. Rajat Agrawal, Department of Management Studies, has been selected for the Prabha Nayyar Award for Excellence in Time Management -2026 
The Outstanding Teacher award carries a Citation, a memento and a cash prize of ₹1.0 lakh was given to the following:
Expressing his happiness on this Teachers’ Day, Prof. K.K., Director, IIT Roorkee, said, “I am grateful to all the awardees who shared their experiences and views and made the event memorable. A good teacher imparts not only knowledge, but also inspires, encourages and instills curiosity in the minds of students”.  He also congratulated the award winners for their exceptional work in transforming the lives of a large number of students.

Expressing his thoughts on the occasion of Teacher’s Day, Prof. Anand Bulusu, Dean of Faculty Affairs, IIT Roorkee, said, “I would like to congratulate the winners and teachers who are giving their best efforts to the students with their experiences. I am also grateful to all these awardees who came forward and shared their views, and made this event a great success.
