Indian Association of Clinical Medicine (Ludhiana Chapter) holds inaugural session

Inaugural session of Indian Association of Clinical Medicine (Ludhiana Chapter) being held at Ludhiana.

Ludhiana, August 26, 2013: The Indian Association of Clinical Medicine (Ludhiana Chapter) was launched in the city on August 21 this year.

The inaugural session of the organisation and its first Continuing Medical Education (CME) progarmme was attended by a large number of delegates. Dr Gursharan Sidhu who is the National President of IACM (Ludhiana Chapter) gave the inaugural address and introduced the constitution of the body and its regulation. In her address, Dr Gursharan Sidhu informed that the association is formed with the aim to promote the art of clinical medicine in the era of hitech instrumentation and imaging techniques.

Prof LS Chawla and Prof GL Avasthi were elected as the patrons of the association. Dr Sandeep Puri was elected the Chairperson. Dr Vikas Loomba and Dr Rajesh Mahajan were elected as Secretary and Treasurer respectively. The executive members include Dr RK Karkara, Dr HS Pannu, Dr Dinesh Jain, Dr Vandana Midha and Dr Ranjit Khanna

The yearbook of Clincal Medicine edited by Dr Gursharan Sidhu was also released on the occasion by Dr LS Chawla.

The inaugural CME was conducted on the topic of Andropause. The main speaker was Dr SK Mathur (DM, Endocrinology) from Chandigarh. Dr Parminder Singh (Prof. & Head of Endocrinology) presented some real case scenarios on the subject and initiated the CME.Dr Sandeep Puri and Dr Kunal Kala, Consultant Psychiatrist, chaired the session.

Speaking on Andropause, Dr Mathur stressed upon the main clinical features which include emotional and physical changes along with low energy levels and a low sex drive.These changes could start as early as 40 years of age.Andropause is linked to the testosterone levels and an appropriate diagnosis can help the individual by a variety of  testosterone replacement therapies which are now available.   

Dr Sandeep Puri, Chairperson, emphasized that this association would hold regular meetings and help in the integration of the clincial aspects of all specialists with Internal Medicine.

Dr Rajesh Mahajan, Treasurer, said that the association would like to encourage all medical specialists to become members and participate in the meetings. Dr Vikas Loomba, Secretary, proposed a vote of thanks and ensured that a regular CMEs on various topics of interest and controversies in medicine would be conducted after every two months
