Chandigarh, July 4, 2026: BJP National General Secretary and Rajya Sabha MP Tarun Chugh strongly criticised the INDIA bloc for questioning the credibility of the Election Commission of India and attempting to politicise the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
Tarun Chugh said that the Election Commission is an independent constitutional institution that functions strictly within the framework of the Constitution and the law, and enjoys global credibility and respect. He said that raising doubts about its impartiality without any evidence, merely at the behest of a foreign toolkit, is part of a calculated conspiracy to malign India's democratic institutions and weaken public faith in the electoral process.
He said that under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi, the INDIA bloc has made it a habit to cast aspersions on every constitutional institution instead of participating responsibly in the democratic process. According to him, their repeated attempts are aimed at creating confusion, chaos and distrust while seeking the approval of foreign forces rather than respecting India's constitutional framework.
Referring to the Special Intensive Revision, Tarun Chugh said that the objective of the exercise is simple and transparent—to ensure a clean, credible and reliable electoral roll by removing fake votes, duplicate entries, illegal infiltrators and doubtful records. He questioned why Rahul Gandhi and the INDIA bloc were so determined to defend fake, duplicate, illegal and infiltrator votes and asked what relationship they shared with such votes. He said that only those whose politics depends upon illegal infiltrators and fraudulent vote banks can oppose a transparent voter verification exercise.
Launching a sharp attack on the Congress, Tarun Chugh said that internal infighting has reached its peak and the party has ceased to function as a national political organisation.
He said that political workers have been replaced by caste-based factions, regional camps and groups engaged only in pleasing the party high command. The Congress, which has consistently echoed the narrative of the tukde-tukde gang, has itself become fragmented into pieces.
Referring to former Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi's public remarks, Tarun Chugh said that even senior Congress leaders have admitted that party workers and leaders are being sidelined on the basis of caste. He said this clearly exposes the Congress as a party deeply divided by caste, region and internal factionalism, making it incapable of providing stable leadership to the country.
Praising the Gujarat ATS for arresting Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorists and dismantling their network, Tarun Chugh said that the operation reflects the success of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's uncompromising zero-tolerance policy against terrorism.
He said there was a time when terrorist organisations enjoyed patronage under Congress governments, but under Prime Minister Modi's leadership, anyone who dares to raise an eye against India will either end up behind bars or beneath the ground.
Tarun Chugh said that New India has made it abundantly clear that there will be neither softness nor compromise with terrorism. He added that India's fight against terrorism extends beyond the borders and includes the complete elimination of sleeper cells, terror modules and every individual providing logistical or ideological support to terrorist organisations operating within the country.
