To generate awareness on crop residue management, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Kapurthala organized village level camps in different villages namely Nasirpur and Chugian Gulam on 01.09.2023 and 04.09.2023 under the aegis of Directorate of Extension Education, PAU, Ludhiana and ICAR ATARI Zone-1, Ludhiana. More than 100 farmers participated in these pragrammes.

Ludhiana, September 5, 2023: To generate awareness on crop residue management, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Kapurthala organized village level camps in different villages namely Nasirpur and Chugian Gulam on 01.09.2023 and 04.09.2023 under the aegis of Directorate of Extension Education, PAU, Ludhiana and ICAR ATARI Zone-1, Ludhiana. More than 100 farmers participated in these pragrammes.

At the onset,Dr. Bindu, Assoc. Prof. (Agri. Eng.) discussed in detail about the project “Promotion on agricultural mechanization for In situ management of crop residue”. She told about various techniques and machinery to prepare field without burning of paddy straw.

Dr. Ashok Kumar, Assistant Professor (Soil Science) acquainted the farmers regarding procedure of soil sampling for judicious use of chemical fertilizers in rabi crops on soil test-based reports. He also stressed upon the in-situ incorporation of paddy straw so that nutrients particularly N, P, K and S present in paddy straw may be utilized by the next season crops. He further urged upon the use of bio-fertilizer consortium in wheat for augmenting soil biological health.

Dr. Amandeep Kaur, Assoc. Prof. (Veg. Sci.) discussed in detail about the fruit and vegetable nutrition garden model. She stressed the farmers to grow fruits and vegetables for their own requirement along with other field crops.

Dr.Avneet Kaur Assoc. Prof. (Home Sci.) highlighted the importance of fruits and vegetables in daily diet and explained about the diseases caused by the deficiency of nutrients in the diet.

Dr Amit Salaria Asstt. Prof. (Agron.) delivered lecture on management of Phalaris minor in residue retained fields. He further advised the farmers to shift their focus towards pre- emergence herbicides for controlling the early flush of Phalaris minor.

Dr Suman Kumari, Asstt. Prof. (Pl. Prot.) discussed rodent control and management of insect-pests of paddy. Dr. Harinder Singh, Associate Director (Trg.) elaborated the pre-requisites for the success of location specific surface straw retention technologies and motivated the farmers to use the residue management techniques. He further assured that technically KVK will provide each and every help to the farmers. At the end of the programmes, fruit plants, vegetable seed kits and vegetable seedlings were provided to the farmers/farm-women.
