Inaugural ceremony of exhibition at Virsa Vihar 

Jalandhar: The Inaugural Ceremony of the Exhibition at Virsa Vihar organized by Apeejay College of Fine Arts, Jalandhar in joint collaboration with Virsa Vihar took place with great gust on the occasion of International Women’s Day. Ms. Gurpreet Kaur Sapra , Commissioner , Jalandhar Division was the Chief Guest of the day.40 Women artists’ work was put on display in the exhibition who have shown their expertise in the field of Paintings, Sculptures, Murals, Photographs, Tapestries, Terracotta.

Principal Dr. Neerja Dhingra warmly welcomed the Chief Guest and all the women artists and put forth that Apeejay has always been the firm supporter of Art and on this International Women’s Day by acknowledging particularly the work of Women artists and honoring them for their art, we want to carry the tradition of speaking for and supporting women empowerment in general. She also added that from the very establishment of the society, women have been the source and inspiration of art. In this Exhibition too, we are going to see the perception of women through their art pieces. 

On this occasion, Dr. Sucharita Sharma, Director, Apeejay Education Society put forth that at every step of life, woman plays an incredible and significant role and when she will be the recipient of equal opportunities and the deserved honour, she will without doubt touch the sky and with this not only the women but the entire society will rise and develop. She expressed her pleasure at the presence of the Chief Guest, artists and Major General Balwinder Singh, Vice Chairman, Virsa Vihar.
Hon’ble Commissioner, Ms. Gurpreet Kaur, IAS expressed her pleasure for being among such artists.  She also put forth that the sky is the limit for the women and every woman should get the equal opportunity to rise and shine and to shine one needs to be clear about their goal to achieve. She wished all the artists and the women best wishes.

Ms. Gurpreet Kaur, Dr. Neerja Dhingra and Dr. Sucharita Sharma honoured 10 women – Ms. Surjeet Kaur, Ms. Sadhna Sagar, Dr. Jeevan Kumari, Ms. Reena Bhatnagar, Ms. Richa Sharma, Ms. Laveena Rajput, Ms. Priya Arora, for their respective work and Principal Dr. Neerja Dhingra honoured Dr. Sucharita Sharma for preserving and supporting art and her humungous contribution for taking the College at this height which today lists among  one of the top institutions of North India  and Ms. Gurpreet Kaur Sapra for carrying forward the welfare programmes and policies of Punjab Government to safeguard the interests of the weaker and under privileged sections of the society.

During the inaugural ceremony, the students of Dr. Amita Mishra and Dr. Vivek Verma sang a group song on the beauty and strength of women.

Dr. Sunit Kaur, Head of the Department of English did the anchoring and ran the show very smoothly. Principal Dr. Neerja Dhingra appreciated the efforts of  Mr. Anil Gupta, Overall Incharge , Mr. Basudev Biswas from Department of Sculpture and Dr. Manisha Sharma, Dean Functions for successfully inaugurating the Exhibition.
