Chandigarh, February 24, 2019: Asserting that not only was the Pakistan military and the ISI supporting the Jaish-e-Mohammad, but also the civilian government led by Imran Khan, former union minister and Congress spokesperson Manish Tewari today said that there was a close nexus between the two.
“Imran Khan is in bed with Maulana Azhar Masood”, Tewari remarked in his characteristic witty style, while addressing a public meeting in Burail here today.
He said the United Nations Security Council Press Statement was disappointing to say the least because it did not condemn the role of the Government of Pakistan in promoting, patronising and sponsoring terror against India.
The hard fact is that Prime Minister Imran Khan and Masood Azhar have an intimate relationship to say the least, he said, while adding, the Jaish -e- Muhammad actively campaigned for the Tehreek -e- Insaf Party of Imran Khan in the Southern Punjab region of Bhawalpur.
They delivered the vote that helped Imran Khan to become Prime Minister of Pakistan, Tewari pointed out, adding in turn Imran Khan is actively helping the Jaish spread its influence in rural Punjab by providing support to its activities including financing the Construction of its sprawling headquarters/ terror factory outside Bhawalpur.
It is no longer the deep state, ISI- Military Combine but the civilian government of Pakistan that is now overtly involved in promoting Terror against India, he remarked .
Tewari further said that United Nations Security Council statement rather than condemning the role of Pakistan has actually let it off the hook and protected its nefarious activities. “From a careful analysis of the form and substance of the statement, it will be seen that the Security Council protects Pakistan”, he added .
The words used to condemn the attack, the Congress spokesman pointed out, not the attacker, are an eye wash and the mention of Jaish-e-Mohammed is in the context of it having claimed responsibility. The Security Council did not make a judgment on the criminality of the terrorist organisation, he said. Similarly, the exhortation to all states to cooperate actively with India has no operational value, he added.
In other words, he said, the statement represents the extent to which the Council could go without naming or hurting Pakistan.
Giving details, the former minister, who is himself an expert on strategic affairs, said as for form, a Press Statement by the Council is the lowest of the three ways in which the Security Council pronounces itself. The highest form is to pass a resolution of the Security Council. Below that is a Presidential Statement, which carries less weight. The Press Statement is a general sense of the Council without any commitment to each word that is written in it.
The International community has only shed crocodile tears without doing anything substantive to punish Pakistan, he observed.
