Presents ‘FICCI Safety Systems Excellence Awards for Industry’
NEW DELHI, 23 August 2017: Addressing FICCI’s 6th National conference on workplace safety on the theme ‘Excellence in Workplace Safety’ today, Dr.Mangu Singh, Managing Director, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Limited said that for ensuring safety of workers at the workplace and onsite, it was essential to select appropriate technology and enforce discipline.
Dr.Singh said that risk analysis and development of method statement were other integral components for construction work. These discuss in detail the line of command, responsibility of the workers and the method of work. He added that toolbox talks have also been introduced to explain to workers about the risks and the ways to avoid them. The Delhi Metro had also
launched a safety manual which described in detail the requisite safety measures and equipment that must be in place to ensure a safe work environment.
He further said mishaps have a demoralizing effect on workers and it could cause setbacks to a project, and added that third part audits were being undertaken to ensure that safety standards were met. He said that the workers at the lowest level were exposed to maximum risks as they directly come in contact with machines, equipment and material on the manufacturing and construction sites. Therefore, it was the responsibility of the top management to safeguard the interests of the workers by implementing safety measures.
Dr. Mangu Singh also felicitated the winners of ‘FICCI Safety Systems Excellence Awards for Industry’ in various categories at a function organized by FICCI at the Federation House today.
Mr. Shyam Bang, Chairman, NABCB & Mentor, FICCI Manufacturing Committee, said that the awards are part of FICCI Manufacturing Committee’s earnest efforts towards promoting a safer working environment and sensitizing industry on good safety systems and best practices.
Enhancing the scope from ‘Manufacturing Awards’ to ‘Awards for Industry’, the awards now cover sectors including construction, manufacturing, mining and power.
Mr. Bang said that these are unique awards that recognise the robustness of safety systems in the units. Over the years, the awards have motivated companies for adopting best safety practices and systems, benchmarked with the best in the Indian industry.
He added that FICCI attaches utmost importance to the safety and health of the work force and wishes to engage further with the government to enhance the workplace safety for millions of our people.
