IKGPTU will invest in Startups Initiatives of Punjab Government in near future: Prof(Dr) Ajay Kumar Sharma

Jalandhar/Kapurthala: To promote startups, boost innovation and to inculcate spirit of entrepreneurship among the youth of Punjab, academic institutions have to work regularly with industry & experts are must. Even in the pandemic, it is important to work for the youngsters towards innovations. This was the message of Prof. (Dr.) Ajay Kumar Sharma, Vice Chancellor I.K.Gujral Punjab Technical University (IKGPTU). He was addressing the “Virtual Result declaration Ceremony” of TAP Business Plan Competition. While congratulating the winner teams, Dr. Sharma said that University is committed towards handholding startups in Punjab. He further said that University will provide free of cost plug & play facility to all the winner teams which will further help them to commercialize their startup. Prof. (Dr.) Sharma said that University will also fund & invest in Startups Initiatives of Punjab Government in future.
 
Briefing the details of event, Er. Navdeepak Sandhu, Deputy Director Corporate Relations & Alumni IKGPTU, said that in an effort to promote aspiring entrepreneurs in the state, IKGPTU has inked “Industry Academia Collaboration Agreement” with The Indus Entrepreneurs (TiE Chandigarh). Under this partnership, University organized “TAP Business Plan Competition” where Business plan proposals were sought from students of University campuses & affiliated colleges.
 
In this competition, 151 Teams were registered from 31 affiliated colleges & University campuses. Further, 22 teams got shortlisted by panel of judges after evaluating their ideas which were uploaded at TAP website by teams. These shortlisted Teams were mentored for two months by CEOs or Founders of TiE member companies to polish their Business Plan. Further, these 22 Teams pitched their Business Plan at IKGPTU Campus Mohali.
 
On July 07, 2020, a “Virtual Result declaration Ceremony” of TAP Business Plan Competition was organized by the University. Er. Navdeepak Sandhu, Deputy Director (Corporate Relations & Alumni), IKGPTU, extended thanks to panel of judges & declared position wise result as per the following:
1st Team - Hair & You - APJIMTC Jalandhar
2nd Team - The Art of Delight - IKGPTU (Main Campus) Jalandhar
3rd Team - Alcohol Detention System - KCET Amritsar.
4th Team - My Home Your PG - GJIMT Mohali
5th Team - Dany’s House - APJIMTC
6th Team - Study Novate - GJIMT Mohali.
 
Er. Sandhu said that First three teams will be rewarded by prize of Rs. 40,000/-, Rs. 30,000/- & Rs. 20, 000/- respectively. Consolation prize of Rs. 5000/- each will be rewarded to the other three teams.
Hon’ble Vice Chancellor IKG PTU, Prof. (Dr.) Ajay Kumar Sharma congratulated the winning teams.
Mr. Munish Jauhar, President, TiE. Chandigarh said that Winner team will represent India in the TiE University Global Pitch Fest Competition at US. He further said that First three teams will be rewarded by prize of Rs. 40,000/-, Rs. 30,000/- & Rs. 20, 000/- respectively. Consolation prize of Rs. 5000/- each will be rewarded to the other three teams.
 
Innovation & Entrepreneurship Development Coordinators of University Campuses & affiliated colleges shared their experience of TAP journey during this Online Award Ceremony.
