IKGPTU and District Kapurthala Police invite people to join hands to accelerate joint efforts for eradication of drugs

Kapurthala/Jalandhar, November 3, 2023: I.K. Gujral Punjab Technical University (IKG PTU)'s NSS Team organized a one-day seminar on drug addiction awareness in collaboration with District Police Kapurthala. SSP Kapurthala Vatsala Gupta, IPS joined the event as the chief guest on the special invitation of Dr. Susheel Mittal, Vice-Chancellor of the University. University Registrar Dr. S.K Misra joined as special guest speaker. PPS officer Dr. Manpreet Shihmaar, DSP Sub-division Kapurthala, participated as expert in this program. 

Registrar Dr. S.K Misra shared the vision about youngsters. He also shared the vision of Vice-Chancellor Dr. Susheel Mittal regarding the young generation's contribution in society. Dr. Misra said that the students were invited to discuss, share suggestions about how to save the society and themselves from drugs. Along with this, while talking about the rich heritage of the country and especially Punjab, he also made people aware of the danger of falling behind the country and the state due to leprosy like drugs. Dr. Misra assured the district police that the university management would support the district administration from all manners to the maximum extent possible in this campaign. He called the seminar not a lecture, but a joint venture invitation for life. He said that this is the time for working together and in this the students should also express their opinions without any hesitation and be aware of the drug trafficking happening around them.

SSP Vatsala Gupta, while talking to the students said that students are the future of our society. Being healthy of the young generation is the basis of progress. He said that students have the ability to make a big effort in creating a drug-free society. Giving an example against drugs, he shared such case studies with the students where the youths who were victims of it later regretted and how many difficulties they had to go through. He said that Punjab is a border state and drugs are supplied from neighboring countries with wrong intentions to destroy the youth of Punjab. He said that selling and buying drugs are crimes and oppression of society. He said that life imprisonment is given under the Drug Trafficking Act. He inspired the students to create a drug free society. He also introduced the students to dial 112 helpline number and 108 women helpline number.

Inspector Amandeep Kaur asked for the cooperation of students to make Punjab drug free and took an oath to stay against drugs. Inspector Mandeep Kaur shared his thoughts about cyber crime with the students and told them about fraud in bank accounts. The students were informed about the 24X7 availability at 1930 cyber fraud helpline number and were given complete information about how they can register their complaint.

Dean R&D Dr Hitesh Sharman, Dean Student Welfare Dr. Gorav Bhargava, Head of Journalism Department Professor Dr. Ranbir Singh presented the tokens of honor to the guests. During the program, NSS program coordinator Assistant professor Dr. Chandra Prakash conducted the stage.
