IKG PTU organized Expert Lecture on subject “Achieving Problem–Solution Fit

Jalandhar/Kapurthala, September 24, 2026: The Department of Journalism & Mass Communication (JMC), I.K. Gujral Punjab Technical University (IKG PTU) in association with the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC), organised an expert lecture on “Achieving Problem–Solution Fit.” The session aimed to equip students with practical insights into identifying real-world problems, validating ideas, understanding market needs and transforming innovative concepts into practical and scalable startup solutions. This academic activity was conducted in the mentorship of Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Arvind Kumar Bansal.

Hemant A. Raja, entrepreneur and alumnus of the Department of Journalism & Mass Communication, was the resource person for the session. Drawing upon his entrepreneurial experience, he shared valuable practical insights on problem identification, innovation, market validation and startup development.

Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Arvind Kumar Bansal felicitated Hemant A. Raja with a token of appreciation for sharing his expertise and entrepreneurial journey with the students. Appreciating his continued association with the university as an alumnus, Prof. (Dr.) Bansal highlighted the important role of alumni in returning to their alma mater, sharing professional experiences and inspiring the present generation of students.

During the interactive session, Hemant A. Raja emphasised that a successful startup begins with identifying a genuine problem rather than simply developing a product or service. He encouraged students to observe challenges around them, understand user needs and develop solutions capable of creating meaningful and sustainable impact.

The session provided students with a practical understanding of the entrepreneurial journey—from problem identification and validation to innovation, solution development and execution. It encouraged them to approach everyday challenges as opportunities for innovation and explore entrepreneurial possibilities beyond conventional career paths.

The programme was attended by Prof. (Dr.) Ranbir Singh, Head, Department of Journalism & Mass Communication; Dr. Ekta Mahajan, Assistant Professor; Dr. Mangla Sahni; Dr. Sanjeev Kumar; Hari K. Singh; and Karamveer Chauhan, Research Scholar. The programme was coordinated by Karan Kumar, Technical Head, Department of Journalism & Mass Communication.
