Hyderabad, May 7, 2022: Indian Journalists Union (IJU), the largest and most representative organisation of working journalists at national level has given a call to journalists all over the country to observe “Journalists Demands Day’ on 10th May, 2022. IJU National Executive Committee (NEC) which met on 25-26, April, 2022 at Mathura in Uttar Pradesh decided to tread the path of agitation to achieve genuine and long pending demands of journalists in the country. 

K.Sreenivas Reddy, President and Balwinder Singh Jammu, Secretary General, IJU in a statement issued on 7th May, 2022 appealed journalists in the country to participate actively in the agitational programme on May 10. 

The demands include Constitution of Media Council in place of Press Council with representation to all national unions/associations, restoration of all concessions to accredited journalists in railways, restoration of representation to all recognised national journalists unions/associations in Central Media Accreditation Committee (CMAC) and State Accreditation Committees. Enactment of “Journalists Protection Act” at Center and State level and restoration of working journalist act and separate wage revision machinery for scribes are also being demanded, they informed.

They said that state unions can include their state specific demands.
