Ropar, September 11, 2025: IIT Ropar’s ANNAM.AI Foundation, under the Ministry of Education, has been awarded the Social Impact Award 2025 in the category Technology & Artificial Intelligence for Social Good at the 5th Social Impact Conference & Awards (SICA 2025), held at the India International Centre (IIC), New Delhi.
The award recognizes the project “Autonomous Weather Station (AWS): Smart Climate Monitoring Solution”, a deep-tech innovation designed to empower farmers with real-time, hyperlocal weather data and AI-driven insights. The AWS units are low-cost, solar-powered, and equipped with IoT sensors that capture data on rainfall, humidity, wind speed, and soil conditions. This information, combined with AI-based predictive analytics, enables farmers to make informed decisions on crop planning, irrigation, pest control, and resource management. By addressing challenges of climate variability and crop losses, AWS is proving to be a vital tool for building climate-resilient and sustainable agriculture.
SICA 2025, themed “Impact 2.0: Scaling India’s Next Wave of Progress”, highlighted the role of technology, partnerships, and innovative financing in accelerating inclusive growth. The conference brought together 80+ eminent speakers, 200+ delegates, industry leaders, policymakers, and 10+ Members of Parliament in a special Policy Panel. It featured keynotes, panel discussions, spotlight talks, and exhibitions showcasing impactful innovations across diverse sectors such as education, healthcare, agriculture, and clean energy.
The Awards Ceremony honored organizations, philanthropists, startups, and social enterprises driving meaningful social change. IIT Ropar’s recognition reflects its commitment to leveraging technology for rural empowerment, sustainability, and social good. The success of the AWS project reaffirms that innovations from Indian institutions can address global challenges like food security and climate adaptation while promoting inclusive development.
