Hyderabad, July 9, 2022: International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad (IIITH) conducted its 21st convocation and graduated 556 students and a record number of 22 PhDs and 133 Masters with thesis.

Over 28% of today’s graduates – 155 out of 556 – earned their degree based on a high-quality thesis. Graduates of IIITH’s Dual-Degree, Master of Science and Ph.D programmes continue to make their mark in top universities and product groups globally. The 2022 batch is the first batch to graduate based on the new academic curriculum that was revised and implemented in 2018.

This year the 2020 and 2021 graduates were also invited to walk the stage and be a part of the celebrations since the institute had e-convocations the past 2 years due to COVID.

Jivitesh Jain, B.Tech Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) was awarded the IIITH gold medal in recognition of his outstanding academic performance. He scored a perfect 10 CGPA, a first in the history of the institute. Tanvi Karandikar (B.Tech in CSE) and Madhukar Dwivedi (Master of Science in CSE by Research) were awarded Best All-rounders for their notable contributions in academics, extra curricular activities and IIITH services.

A total number of 145 companies registered for conducting placements; 76 companies conducted online recruitments and 57 companies made job offers to these graduating students.

Prof Alison Noble from University of Oxford, who was chief guest said this convocation is very special especially after coming out of the challenging times.  AI and Robotics are exciting technologies which will transform the future.  Addressing the packed gathering she told students that the leadership comes with responsibility and wished them success in their endeavours.

Commending the graduating students and their parents, Prof. P J Narayanan, Director, IIITH said, “Our students’ world was turned upside down in March 2020 by the global pandemic. The Bachelors and Masters students did most of the heavy courses in an online mode, without the interactions with classmates and teachers that enrich the academic experience. Inherent grit made them work hard and focus on academics amidst everything that was going on around them. This is perhaps the most resilient batch to graduate from the Institute. Life throws challenges at each of us frequently enough. Ploughing on towards the goals while keeping one’s composure is what the brave do. Today’s graduates can congratulate themselves for their achievements. Learning from different experiences takes one ahead; brooding over what was lost keeps us back in life. I urge the graduates and their families to celebrate this occasion in a way only you can”.

Convocation chief guest Prof Alison Noble FRS, Technikos Professor in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Oxford, UK congratulated the graduating students and wished them will for their future endeavours.
