Ludhiana, December 4, 2017: Indian Doctors for Peace and Development (IDPD ) in a letter addressed to the Prime Minster and the Foreign Minister has appealed that India must attend the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony to be held in Oslo, Norway on 10th December 2017. Like every year India has got invitation to attend the ceremony. But reliable sources have revealed that Indian Ambassador to Norway is on leave those days. Therefore India will not be represented by a high level delegation. This will send wrong signals as India has always stood for nuclear disarmament. This year’s Nobel Peace Prize has been awarded to International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN) for its consistent efforts which succeeded in getting the Treaty Prohibiting Nuclear Weapons (TPNW) passed in the UN General Assembly by 122/1 vote. Ironically none of the nuclear weapon states – USA, UK, Russia, France, China, Israel, India, Pakistan and North Korea participated in the deliberations of the UN General Assembly.

A seven member delegation from India including Dr Arun Mitra – Co President International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War (IPNW), Dr S S Soodan – President, Dr Shakeel Ur Rahman – General Secretary and Dr Satyajit Kumar Singh – Senior Vice President, Dr Jeetenra Singh – Secretary, Dr Mrs Bibha Singh and Dr Yahya Khan of IDPD will participate in the Nobel Peace Prize Ceremony.
