Jalandhar/Kapurthala, April 29, 2017: Kahan Singh Pannu today took charge as Vice Chancellor I.K.Gujral Punjab Technical University at its main campus. Immediately after taking charge he called meeting with senior staff and officers of the University. He showed his concern about the improvement of technical Education system in the state of Punjab. VC Pannu is also holding the charge of Secretary, Department of Technical Education & Industrial training Govt. of Punjab. He said that improving the quality of technical education in the state for ensuring employment and employability of the students is his first agenda.
While addressing first meeting with Deans and Director level officers he told that his focus is to build Technical University as "Institution of Excellence". He further laid stress on teachers training. He said, "University has to take steps for training of teachers of technical institutions with regards to improving education skills. During the meeting officers were instructed to identify the black sheep in the university and its affiliated institutions for their surgical removal to cleanse the system.
He directed University officers for immediate academic audit of all the colleges affiliated to IKGPTU with a view to identify non-performing colleges in term of standards of education, low quality teaching staff and inadequate infrastructure, so that action could be taken against such colleges in the interest of state and students.
Pannu ordered immediate enquiry in to re-evaluation practices prevalent in the university and deputed senior officers to submit a report in this regard spanning over the last five years. He said existence of revaluation is only because of irresponsible paper checking staff and evaluators.
Kahan Singh Pannu said that no one has the right to play with the career of the students and all employees should work for the institution first.
On this occasion Dean planning & Development Dr NP Singh, Dean Research Innovation and Consultancy Dr A P Singh, Registrar Dr Amanpreet Singh, Controller of Examination Er Paramjit Singh and other senior officers were present.
