Chandigarh, October 4, 2015: The two week long Training Programme on “Research Methodology in Social Science Research” concluded today which was organized by the ICSSR North-Western Regional Centre, Chandigarh, from September 21 – October 3, 2015.    The training programme was attended by 46 research scholars from the various disciplines of social sciences of universities and colleges of North-West Region.
Professor Ronki Ram,  Director of the Regional Centre welcomed the Chief Guest Dr.G.S. Saun, Member-Secretary, Indian Council of Social Science Research, New Delhi.
Dr. G.S. Saun, in his Valedictory address stated that India is a mini world offering myriad possibilities for researches in every aspect of life and future of the world. 
This was the challenge for young researchers.  He urged the participants to share the knowledge and skills gained during the Programme with their peers in their respective universities and departments.  He expressed great satisfaction with the tremendous response of the scholars to the workshop and urged them to connect the Regional Centre if, they require any guidance in respect of their research. 
The resource persons of the workshop were from various disciplines who delivered the lectures on the topics such as  Meaning and Aspect of Research, Epistemological Issues, Research Design, Formulation of  Research Problems and Hypothesis, Review of Literature, Methods of Primary Data Collection and Sampling Techniques, Conducting Survey and Writing Research Findings, Use of SPSS, Historical  Data Sources and Construction of Questionnaire, Use of Narratives and Book Review, Research Funding Agencies and Publication Process  in the workshop.  
Dr. Latika Sharma, Course Co-ordinator, presented the Programme report. She said that the ICSSR set the course objectives  for the training programmes.  The participants would be able to gainfully employ their learning in research methodology through these objectives. 
On the behalf of the participants, Mr. Kushbir Singh Saini alongwith Ms. Kanika, Ms.Guneet Kaur Cheema, Mr. Rahul Ratnam and Mr. Shyam Sundar Dass presented the feedback report expressing gratitude for the opportunity provided by ICSSR NWRC to gain through the interactive academic sessions, field visit, library visit and presentation of field reports during the programme. They hoped to reach the higher league of academics thus empowered with guidance & skills during the  Training Programme. 
Dr. P.K. Saini, Deputy Director, ICSSR, thanked  the Director, Course Co-ordinator, resource persons, participants and  appreciated the hard work done by the staff of the ICSSR and wished the participants that this course will be beneficial in their future research.
