ICAR-CIPHET organised meeting of Research Advisory Committee

Ludhiana, March 11, 2022: ICAR-Central Institute of Post-Harvest Engineering & technology, Ludhiana organized 24th meeting on Research Advisory Committee during 10-11 March, 2022. The meeting was chaired by Dr. D. C. Joshi, Vice Chancellor, Agricultural University, Kota while  Dr. H. N. Mishra, Professor I/C & Nodal Officer, IIT Kharagpur, Dr. Meenakshi Singh, Chief Scientist, CSIR, New Delhi, Dr. Sunil Bhand, Dean, BITS Pilani and Dr. Nachiket Kotwaliwale, Director, ICAR-CIPHET also joined. The meeting is conducted annually to look after the research progress of the institute and to decide the new initiatives and future plan of the institute in the Research and Development. 

During the meeting the institute presented the achievements in form of development machines/technologies/process protocols and efforts made to transfer of technology & spread of knowledge. The committee helped in prioritizing work on development of machinery/equipment/gadgets/process protocols and value added products, extension of high value compounds from agricultural & other bio wastes, automation and sensor application for food quality, safety and other post-harvest unit operations.

The meeting was coordinated by Dr. Sandeep Mann, Principal Scientist and Member Secretary and graced by the presence of all Scientific and other Staff of the ICAR-CIPHET. On this occasion, the revamped version of the ICAR-CIPHET website was also inaugurated.

Dr. D. C. Joshi, Chairman, RAC, suggested the scientists to work on wholistic approach instead of working on the fragmented research ideas. Focus should be on commodity specific, value chain models, should involve stakeholder’s feedback during the initiation and execution of research projects. Chairman also appreciated the efforts of the scientists in achieving the targets and working towards the national priorities and stakeholder problems in post-harvest processing.

Dr. Nachiket Kotwaliwale, Director of the institute presented the achievements of the institute during 2021-2022. During the meeting three information technical bulletins of the institute were released namely ‘Safe storage of food grains’, ‘Agro processing models in India’ and ‘Drying and Storage practices of  Maize cobs and grains’. Two successful entrepreneurs promoted by ICAR-CIPHET namely “Thanks Peanut” and “Jagger Cane” startups also shared their experiences, appreciated and highlighted the support of the institute in helping them establish in the field.
