ICAR-CIPHET Licenses Rice Bran Protein Process Technology to West Bengal Firm

Ludhiana, September 29, 2026: Rice bran is a nutrient-rich byproduct of the rice milling industry, containing high-quality proteins, dietary fibre and antioxidants. To promote its value addition and utilisation in food and nutritional applications, ICAR-CIPHET, Ludhiana, has developed an efficient and scalable “Process Technology for Preparation of Rice Bran Protein” for producing high-quality plant-based protein from rice bran. Recognising its commercial potential, Rajdeep Sukumar Ghosh, M/s Novatech Oil (I) Private Limited, West Bengal, approached ICAR-CIPHET for licensing of the technology.
The technology transfer process was facilitated by Dr. Ranjeet Singh, In-charge, ITMU while the technical training program for the firm's representative was coordinated by Dr. Manju Bala, Principal Scientist, FGOP Division. Following successful completion of the required technical training and formalities, Dr. Nachiket Kotwaliwale, Director, ICAR-CIPHET, formally handed over the technology licensing agreement and training certificate to the representative of the firm.
The technology was developed by Dr. Surya Tushir, Dr. D. N.Yadav, Dr. Rajeev K. Kapoor. The technology is expected to support value addition of rice bran, development of plant-based protein products and sustainable growth of the rice processing sector.
