ICAR-CIPHET Licenses Fat-Free Flavoured Makhana Technology to Woman Entrepreneur from Ludhiana

Ludhiana, December 3, 2025: Makhana is an organic, nutrient-rich crop whose demand and price have risen in recent years. Conventional flavoured makhana products often contain up to 30% added oil, increasing their calorific value and reducing their health appeal. To address this, ICAR-CIPHET Ludhiana has developed a “Process for Preparation of Fat-Free Flavoured Makhana.”

Alka Menra, a budding woman entrepreneur from Ludhiana, approached CIPHET for licensing this technology. Dr. Ranjeet Singh, I/c ITMU, facilitated this technology transfer activity. Following successful training, the licensing and training certificate was awarded to her by Dr. R.K. Vishwakarma, I/c Director, ICAR-CIPHET, on December 3.

The technology was developed by Dr. Mridula Devi, Dr. R.K. Vishwakarma, Dr. Ranjeet Singh, Dr. R.K. Singh, and Dr. S.N. Jha.
