Sony SAB’s Yaadein brings together light-hearted situations and unique medical cases through Dr. Dev’s journey in Kallari village. As Dr. Dev (Iqbal Khan) continues his journey in Kallari, an emergency involving a pregnant villager puts him in a difficult situation.
Unwilling to let the situation come in the way of saving patient Mishri’s life, Dr. Dev comes up with an unusual plan and disguises himself as someone possessed by feminine energy, going to extraordinary lengths to convince the villagers to let him enter the women’s enclosure. Bringing this sequence to life required Iqbal to step outside his usual performance style and work on his voice modulation. He practised specific voice exercises to bring a feminine quality to his voice while paying close attention to his pitch, tone and expressions to make the portrayal convincing. The sequence gave him an opportunity to explore a different side of his performance as Dr. Dev uses his presence of mind to overcome the villager’s resistance and help someone in need.
Talking about this sequence, Iqbal Khan shares, “This was quite a different experience for me as an actor because I had to work on aspects of my performance that I don’t usually explore while playing Dr. Dev. Since he disguises himself as someone possessed by feminine energy, getting the voice right was particularly important. I practised different voice exercises to bring a feminine quality to my voice and worked on the pitch and tone so that it suited the situation. It was interesting to experiment with these nuances and understand how even a small change in voice or expression can make a difference to a scene.”
