HUWJ urges CM Nayab Singh Saini to increase the monthly pension of journalists

Rohtak, January 16, 2025: A delegation of the Haryana Union of Working Journalists (HUWJ), led by its State President Manmohan Kathuria submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini. CM was in Rohtak to unveil the statue of freedom fighter Pandit Shri Ram Sharma and address a public meeting.

Kathuria told that, the union urged the Chief Minister to increase the monthly pension amount for accredited journalists from Rs 15,000 to Rs 25,000. The union also requested to reduce the eligibility age from 60 years to 58 years to extend the benefits of the pension scheme to a larger number of journalists.

Kathuria told that the Haryana government had started a monthly pension scheme for journalists in 2017 with an amount of Rs 10,000. Later, after the demand of journalists, this pension amount was increased to Rs 15,000. Currently, the state governments of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra provide a pension of Rs 20,000 per month to journalists. Therefore, HUWJ demanded to increase the pension amount in Haryana to Rs 25,000, so that Haryana can become the first state to give the highest pension to journalists across the country. The union also urged to implement the cashless facility announced for journalists. NUJ (I) treasurer and HUWJ patron Somnath Sharma was also present on the occasion.
