HUWJ seeks early revamp of press accreditation panels; Seeks clearance of pending applications, journalist bodies’ representation at district level

Rohtak, September 22, 2026: The Haryana Union of Working Journalists (HUWJ) has sought immediate reconstitution of press accreditation committees at the state and district levels, citing delays in processing journalists’ applications.
In a memorandum to the Director General, Information, Public Relations, Languages and Culture Department; HUWJ state president Manmohan Kathuria urged the government to convene meetings of the committees and clear pending applications at the earliest.
The union said hundreds of applications were pending at the state, district and sub-divisional levels due to the committees not functioning regularly. It said the delay was affecting eligible journalists’ access to benefits such as pension, cashless medical care and Roadways bus passes, besides accreditation-related access to official events and Assembly session coverage.
HUWJ also sought representation for active, registered journalist organisations on district committees as per rules and called for an early meeting to clear the backlog.
Kathuria also urged the government to align the accreditation system with the expanding electronic, digital and web media landscape.
