Rohtak, May 7, 2026: The Haryana Union of Working Journalists (HUWJ) honored Dr. H.K. Agarwal, Vice-Chancellor of Pt. Bhagwat Dayal Sharma University of Health Sciences, Rohtak, for his historic contribution to raising awareness about organ donation within the state and transforming it into a social movement.
During a ceremony held in the auditorium of the Vice-Chancellor's office, Dr. Agarwal was felicitated with a memento and a shawl by HUWJ State President Manmohan Kathuria, along with other office bearers and senior journalists.
Addressing the gathering, Vice-Chancellor Dr. H.K. Agarwal said that organ donation is the ultimate gift—there is no greater act of charity. He noted that a single individual's decision can grant a new lease on life to eight to ten people. He added that a new wave of awareness regarding organ donation has swept across the country following Prime Minister Narendra Modi's appeal during his 'Mann Ki Baat' radio program.
He further mentioned that, under the guidance and support of Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini and Health Minister Aarti Singh Rao, the entire team at SOTTO Haryana is dedicated to transforming this noble cause into a mass movement. Making an emotional appeal to the general public, Vice-Chancellor Dr. Agarwal emphasized that through organ donation, we can bring light into someone's life even after our own passing. He noted that even after departing from this world, a human being continues to live on—becoming the heartbeat in someone's chest or the vision in someone's eyes. He asserted that organ donation is, in essence, the act of transforming death itself into life.
He urged the residents of the state to discuss organ donation within their families and to take a pledge to donate. While discussing future plans during the event, Dr. Agarwal announced that, in addition to blood donation drives, organ donation awareness camps would also be organized to promote the cause. Furthermore, a large-scale awareness campaign is set to be launched in rural areas as well.
Registrar Dr. Roop Singh said that, under the leadership of Vice-Chancellor Dr. Agarwal, the UHSR has brought about revolutionary changes in the field of organ donation over the past year. Acting on the Vice-Chancellor's directives, a tradition has been established at the Trauma Center to accord a respectful and dignified farewell to the families of brain-dead organ donors. The mortal remains are honored by offering floral tributes.
HUWJ State President, Manmohan Kathuria remarked that it is due to the inspiration and visionary leadership of Vice-Chancellor Dr. H.K. Agarwal, that PGIMS is currently setting a record by facilitating organ donations three times within a single month. Furthermore, lives are being saved through the airlifting of organs. He emphasized that a doctor's role extends beyond merely providing medical treatment; it also involves guiding society. State President Kathuria added that, with the support of the state government, Vice-Chancellor Dr. Agarwal has transformed organ donation into a social movement, infusing it with a spirit of selfless service.
HUWJ State Treasurer Lokesh Jain noted that, under the leadership of Vice-Chancellor Dr. Agarwal, Dr. Sukhbir—the Nodal Officer for SOTTO Haryana—and his team have successfully disseminated awareness regarding organ donation across schools, colleges, and even at the Panchayat level. Present on the occasion were HUWJ District President Manoj Verma, senior journalists - Girish Saini, Sanjeev Kaushik, Anil Chahal, Saurabh Sharma, Payal Ahuja, Gaurav, and Jagdeep, among other dignitaries.
