Hungama OTT Bets Big on a Bold Female-Led Crime Thriller with Begum Of Crime

Hungama OTT, one of India’s leading digital entertainment platforms, launched its latest original series, Begum of Crime, on xx March 2026. The series presents a gripping tale of ambition, survival, and the cost of power, raising the stakes in the crime thriller genre. Begum Of Crime delves into the psychology of ambition, the relentless hunger for respect, and the fine line between empowerment and destruction.
The story follows Divya, portrayed by Sana Makbul, who shatters the idea of the conventional heroine.  Fierce, flawed, and unapologetically driven, Divya leaves behind the safety of her home with one goal: to build a life entirely on her own terms. In a world that constantly dismisses her, she refuses to shrink. Each setback sharpens her resolve. Each compromise pulls her further into moral grey territory. What begins as a fight to survive slowly mutates into something far more dangerous. Deception becomes currency. Manipulation becomes armour. Theft and betrayal become stepping stones. And eventually, blood is drawn. Divya’s transformation from an underestimated dreamer to a calculating force forms the spine of this gripping narrative.
Sharing her thoughts on playing Divya, Sana Makbul said, “I’ve been waiting for the right project to mark my OTT debut, and Begum of Crime felt like the perfect choice. Divya is bold, unapologetic, and dangerously determined. She operates in grey shades; you don’t always agree with her. As an actor, it was emotionally challenging to step into her psyche because she believes that if the world refuses to give her respect, she’ll take it by any means necessary. That emotional fire is what makes her both powerful and unpredictable.”
