Hooda slams MSP hike, says Haryana farmers forced to sell below support price

Rohtak/Chandigarh, October 2, 2026: Haryana farmers are being forced to sell paddy and bajra below the government-announced MSP amid inadequate procurement arrangements, Leader of Opposition and former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda alleged, calling the latest Rabi MSP hike a “drop in the ocean.”

Hooda said farmers in the state were selling their produce for up to ₹400 per quintal below MSP, while also facing shortages of storage, weighing and lifting facilities at mandis.

He said the 25-paise-per-kg increase in MSP was inadequate given the sharp rise in the cost of fuel, fertilisers, seeds, pesticides, farm machinery and labour.

Hooda also alleged that MSP increases averaged around 14% annually during the Congress-led government, compared with about 5% under the BJP.

He further demanded that the BJP fulfil its promise of procuring paddy at ₹3,100 per quintal, alleging that farmers were yet to benefit from the promised rate and were being forced to sell at lower prices.
