Hooda Leads ‘Vote Chori’ Protest, Demands CEC’s Resignation

Rohtak, September 28, 2026: Congress staged protests across Haryana on Monday against what it alleged was “vote chori” and collusion between the Election Commission and the BJP. Former chief minister and Leader of Opposition Bhupinder Singh Hooda joined the demonstration in Rohtak and demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
Protesters raised slogans of “Vote Chor, Gaddi Chor” and sought the CEC’s resignation and arrest, besides a review of election-related decisions taken during his tenure.
Hooda alleged that the BJP, with the Election Commission’s help, had “stolen the public mandate” in Haryana. Citing official turnout figures, he questioned the increase in voter turnout from 61.19% reported on October 5, 2024, to 65.65% the next day and 67.9% on October 7, a day before counting.
“Congress has raised several questions before the Election Commission, but has received no answers,” Hooda said, adding that the alleged vote theft had now been brought into the public domain by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and the media.
Earlier, Hooda paid tribute to Shaheed Bhagat Singh on his birth anniversary, saying protecting the freedom secured through the sacrifices of martyrs was the duty of every citizen.
Senior Congress leaders Anand Singh Dangi, Prof Virendra, Chakravarti Sharma, Kuldeep Singh Nambardar and others accompanied Hooda.
Later, Hooda visited Naya Bans, Bhaisru Khurd, Bhaisru Kalan, Hasangarh and Samchana villages, where he interacted with residents about his future political course. Villagers assured him of their support and said the struggle against the BJP would continue.
