Hooda Leads Congress March to Assembly over Employees’ Issues, MLAs Jostle With Cops at Barricades

Chandigarh, August 31, 2026: Congress MLAs, led by former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Bhupinder Singh Hooda, marched towards the Haryana Legislative Assembly on the second day of the Monsoon session, raising slogans over a range of employee and recruitment-related issues.
The MLAs carried placards demanding acceptance of sanitation workers’ demands, regularisation of Kaushal Rozgar Nigam (HKRN) employees and guest teachers, equal pay for equal work, and action on the demands of electricity and fire brigade personnel. They also sought restoration of the Old Pension Scheme, removal of the HPSC Chairman, an end to alleged preference for outsiders in recruitment and greater transparency in government hiring.
As the Congress legislators approached the Assembly, police deployed barricades to stop the march. Congress leaders alleged that security personnel used force and physically jostled the MLAs while trying to prevent them from proceeding.
Condemning the police action, Hooda said peacefully raising public issues was a democratic right as well as a responsibility of elected representatives. He accused the BJP government of adopting an “authoritarian” approach and attempting to suppress issues concerning employees and the public.
Hooda said Congress MLAs would continue to raise public-interest issues both inside and outside the Assembly. He asserted that the party stood firmly with employees and would continue to fight for their demands.
