Homage to victims of atomic bombing at Hiroshima being paid at Ludhiana.

Ludhiana, August 6, 2014: The students and staff of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Senior Secondary School, Haqikat Nagar, Haibowal Kalan Ludhiana at a function organised by the Indian Doctors for Peace and Development (IDPD) paid homage to the victims of atomic bombing at Hiroshima in Japan on August 6, 1945 by the US Army.
Addressing on the occasion Dr Arun Mitra –General Secretary IDPD said that the atom bomb dropped at Hiroshima killed over 140,000 people out which large number were   school children.  The bomb had a multi pronged effect of blast, light and heat and radiation leakage. Almost all the buildings fell, human bodies melted and many got charred, several people developed bleeding from various organs in the body  and died because of that. The radiation effects are continuing in the form of genetic mutations leading to malformed children being born even today. There is an urgent need to develop anti nuclear movement and demand complete elimination of nearly 20000 nuclear weapons present on earth today. He further said that poor countries like India and Pakistan should abandon their nuclear weapons and strive for peace through mutual dialogue.
M S Bhatia, Co-Convener Social Thinkers’ Forum introduced the subject. Harbhajan Singh thanked everyone present. Rajinder Kaur-Principal of the school thanked the IDPD for this awareness. Anod Kumar helped in organising the event. A quiz was among the students and those who replied to the questions were awarded.
