History Creator, LPU’s Javelin Thrower Neeraj Chopra is now ranked World No. 1 athlete

Olympics-2020 gold medal winner, and history creating in the domain of Indian athletics; LPU student Neeraj Chopra is now announced ‘World No. 1’ in the latest men’s javelin throw rankings by the World Athletics.

Jalandhar: Olympics-2020 gold medal winner, and history creating in the domain of Indian athletics; LPU student Neeraj Chopra is now announced ‘World No. 1’ in the latest men’s javelin throw rankings by the World Athletics.


With 1455 points, Neeraj Chopra has topped the rankings, 22 points ahead of his immediate rival, and up till now champion- Grenada's Anderson Peters.


Congratulating the ace-javelin throwing athlete of the country and LPU, Chancellor Dr Ashok Kumar Mittal expressed his immense happiness, and described it as an encouragement to all men-women athletes of the country and the university to keep on persevering with their winning sports skills. Chancellor Dr Mittal also inspires all others at LPU to keep on scaling the winning ladders.


Previously, Neeraj Chopra has also won the Jewel Association 2022 finals in Zurich, becoming the principal Indian competitor to win the esteemed Precious stone Association’ prize. He participated at the season-opening Doha Diamond League and won with a throw of 88.67 meters. He will next compete in the Netherlands. Additionally, his participation will also be in Finland, later on.


Prior to this, LPU’s sports persons had also contributed a lot to India’s winning performance at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games. There, 12 students and alumni won a gold, a silver and two bronze medals for the country.


Worth mentioning, LPU has a special scholarship scheme, mentorship and due honour for the eminent sports persons of the country. Many LPU students are now Olympians, international and national sports persons of top ranks including ace Javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra, wrestler Bajrang Punia, Hockey Captain Manpreet Singh, Woman-Boxer Jaismine and many more.
