HIRD Director Dr. Virender Singh Chauhan urges villagers to actively participate in the Gram Sabha

Karnal, February 4, 2026: The success of development schemes is only possible when panchayat representatives and villagers work together with transparency, participation, and accountability. These views were expressed by Dr. Virender Singh Chauhan, Director of the Haryana Institute of Rural Development (HIRD), while addressing the villagers at Alawala Gram Panchayat. Sarpanch Ajit Singh Rana welcomed Dr. Chauhan.

 

Dr. Virender Singh Chauhan urged the villagers to actively participate in the Gram Sabha, as it is the most powerful and democratic platform for the development of the village. He said that the proposals put forward through the Gram Sabha reflect the real needs of the village, and effective development plans can be formulated based on these proposals.

 

HIRD Director asked the Sarpanch to ensure that information about the Gram Sabha is disseminated widely in the village so that every villager can ensure their participation. He assured them that he would be present at the next Gram Sabha to interact directly with the villagers.

 

Gurvinder Singh from the National Institute of Rural Development also shared his views on the process of village development planning, rural participation in plan formulation, and the effective implementation of schemes. Bad Singh, Naresh, Krishna Kumar, Harpal, Rajinder, Samruddin, Teja Rana, Kalu Singh, Leelu Singh, Rajinder Singh, Narpal, and other villagers were present on the occasion.
