Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was not only a great warrior; but also a symbol of ideal governance and patriotism. Dr. Virender Singh Chauhan, Director of the Haryana Institute of Rural Development (HIRD), expressed these views as the Chief Guest while addressing the students at a symposium organized by the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) at Kurukshetra University on the occasion of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj's birth anniversary.

Kurukshetra, February 19, 2026: Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was not only a great warrior; but also a symbol of ideal governance and patriotism. Dr. Virender Singh Chauhan, Director of the Haryana Institute of Rural Development (HIRD), expressed these views as the Chief Guest while addressing the students at a symposium organized by the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) at Kurukshetra University on the occasion of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj's birth anniversary.

The program began with the lighting of a lamp by the chief guest and other dignitaries. The program was presided over by Dr. Dharamveer Singh, Head of the History Department. Dr. Sushil Mehta, State President of the ABVP, was the special guest, and Lav Pratap Rana, State Minister, was the guest of honour.

Chief Guest Dr. Chauhan said that Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj elevated Indian self-respect to new heights by establishing Swaraj and taught the youth to be proud of their history. He added that Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was a strong advocate of women's dignity. Even during wartime, he prioritized the protection of women's dignity and strictly instructed his soldiers not to mistreat any woman. This reflects his high morals and values, which are a source of inspiration for today's society.

He said that Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj's administrative abilities, foresight, and organizational skills set him apart from other rulers. He established a strong state through a robust system of forts, an effective navy, and public welfare policies. His life inspires us to prioritize national interests and act with dedication.

Special Guest Dr. Sushil Mehta said that Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj's life is a model of courage, leadership, and sacrifice for the youth. He urged the current generation to imbibe his ideals and play an active role in nation-building. Other dignitaries, faculty, and students were present during the event. The program concluded with the national anthem.
