Dharamsala, September 27, 2013: Block Congress Committee (BCC) Dharamsala has thanked CM of Himachal, Vir Bhadra for clearing Dharamsala as the final site to establish the Central University in Cabinet, and requested him to lay the foundation stone through Congress president Sonia Gandhi in October.

Taking to media at Dharamsala , BCC president Suresh Pappi said , “This university was initially given to Dharamsala by Sonia Gandhi , who announced it during her visit to the city in 2007. But the previous BJP Government bifurcated it for Dharamsala and Dehra.”

He said the then chief minister PK Dhumal had allotted 70% of the CU campus for Dehra, which falls under the jurisdiction of Hamirpur parliamentary constituency, having Anuraag Thakur (Dhumals’ son) its MP, to give undue advantage to Anuraag Thakur.

BCC President said, “We are not against establishing of any institute at Dehra, but shall not allow the Dharamsala’s share to be given to some other area.”

He said that Dharamsala MLA Sudhir Sharma had committee to the voters to give CU to Dharamsala during last assembly elections, and he worked very hard on this subject during the last 9 months.

Pappi said, “Around 2000 kanal of forest free land in Indrunag, Chola, Tau, and Bhanghotu have already been allotted to CU. The first face of the University needs only 160 hectare of land to start 22 faculties. A total of 7,000 kanal land is required for full fledged university, the paper for which has been sent to Delhi for government’s approval.”

Congress party leaders Rakesh Rana and Jatinder Sharma were also present at this occasion.
