Himachal Pradesh Assembly elects Vinay Kumar as Deputy Speaker

Vinay Kumar, the Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Renukaji in Sirmaur district, has been unanimously elected as the Deputy Speaker of the Himachal Pradesh Assembly.

Dharamsala, December 19, 2023: Vinay Kumar, the Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Renukaji in Sirmaur district, has been unanimously elected as the Deputy Speaker of the Himachal Pradesh Assembly. 

This appointment comes a year after the formation of the Congress government in Himachal. 

On Monday, Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu proposed Vinay Kumar's name for the position of Deputy Speaker. The proposal received support from Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri and Agriculture Minister Chandra Kumar. 

The Leader of the Opposition, Jairam Thakur, and former Deputy Speaker Hansraj, among others, also supported the proposal.

After the unanimous approval, Vinay Kumar was officially appointed as the Deputy Speaker, taking his seat in the Assembly.
After the election, CM Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu acknowledged Vinay Kumar's long-standing service and congratulated Sirmaur district on the appointment.

Vinay Kumar, elected as an MLA for the third consecutive time, previously served as the Chief Parliamentary Secretary (CPS) in the former Virbhadra government. He expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister and the party high command for the appointment.
