Himachal News/GoI approves 8 projects worth Rs. 217.26 crores under UIDSSMT of JNNURM: Minister

Dharamsala, December 2, 2013: Urban Development Minister Sudheer Sharma said, “The Government of India, Ministry of Urban Development has approved a shelf of 8 projects with an estimated project cost of Rs. 217.26 crores under UIDSSMT of JNNURM.
These 8 schemes include water supply schemes for Rampur, Nagrota, Kangra, Mandi, Manali and Kullu Towns.” It also includes sewerage scheme for Baddi and Nalagarh.
The minister said that matter was  taken up with the Govt. of India for sanction of 23 other schemes for different towns pertaining to up gradation of urban infrastructure amounting to approximately Rs.345 crore. DPRs for these projects are being appraised by the Govt. of India and it is expected that they shall also be approved shortly. Department of Urban Development has prioritized obtaining sanction and funding from Govt. of India for creating infrastructure in the urban areas of the country.
Projects worth Rs. 52.50 crores already stands sanctioned for water supply schemes and roads of Dharamsala town and roads for Rewalsar town. Priority of department is to ensure timely completion of the schemes while maintaining the quality. Keeping in view the fragile environment of the State and the fact that the Himachal is an international tourist destination, efforts will be made to present a clean and beautiful environment to the tourist. To ensure this, efforts are being made to improve the sanitation facilities in the towns and also beautify them.
