Ludhiana, October 27, 2014: Manohar Lal a 68year old businessman from Jammu was in a difficult situation . He had severe blockage in his arteries but because of a severe chronic lung condition (Interstitial Lung Disease). He was not being found fit for surgery. His sons Keemtilal and Sikander then brought him to Dr Harinder Singh Bedi, Head of Cardio Vascular & Thoracic Surgery at the Christian Medical College & Hospital, Ludhiana and one of the senior most cardio-vascular surgeons of India. Dr Bedi realised that although there was a major risk because of the lung disease, it was imperative to perform the bypass because the heart would otherwise suffer an attack and stop working . A detailed surgical plan was chalked out along with the CTVS Heart Team. Using specialised techniques a complete revascularization was carried out taking care to avoid damage to the lungs . Before surgery a vigorous yoga therapy was initiated and continued post operatively. This worked remarkably well and Manohar Lal was up and about very quickly. Another patient AvtarSingh (56) from VPO Sohan Jana, District Jammu was suffering from massive bleeding from the lung with a lung abscess. He was also referred to Dr Bedi from Jammu and underwent a lobectomy to remove the large infected part of the lung which was bleeding. The operating team comprised the CTVS doctors - Dr HS Bedi, Dr A Joseph, Dr Viju Abraham, Dr V Tewarson, Dr Robin, Dr Cynthia, Dr Jithin and Dr Markose. Cardiac Anesthesia for these difficult cases was given by Dr N Dua and Dr Melchi. ----------------------------- Readers may send their news/views/feedback to us: [email protected]
