Hero Group launches BML Munjal University, in collaboration with London’s Imperial College

Ludhiana, November 28, 2013: The Hero Group today announced the launch of “BML Munjal University, (BMU) - a new initiative by the US$5 billion business conglomerate. A fully-residential university, BMU is located at Village Sidhrawali, District Gurgaon on NH 24 (50 kms from the Delhi International Airport).

Named after the Hero Group Co-founder and Chairman, Brij Mohan Lall Munjal, the University aspires to nurture ethical leaders who are skilled, knowledgeable and have the life skills required for leading their organisations to success. The university shall seek the advancement and dissemination of practically- oriented knowledge benchmarked with the best global standards.

The announcement was made here today in the presence of the promoters of the Hero Group - Suman Kant Munjal, MD Rockman Industries Ltd; Pawan Munjal, Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer, Hero MotoCorp Ltd; Sunil Kant Munjal, Founder Chairman, BML Educorp Services and Renu Munjal, Managing Director, Hero FinCorp Ltd. This initiative by the Munjal family would be led by Akshay Munjal, Executive Director, BML Educorp Services.

BMU’s School of Management will be mentored by one of the most prestigious universities in the world- Imperial College of London. The Imperial College, ranked 5th in the QS World University Rankings 2013, has played a key role in establishing IIT Delhi. At BMU, Imperial College will co-design the curriculum, facilitate student and faculty exchange programmes, conduct joint research activities and establish digital learning platforms. There will also be opportunities for students to join innovation camps and credit-based courses in London. In addition to this, select BTech students will have the opportunity to undertake a one-year MSc programme at the Imperial College Business School.

BMU is also setting up industry-promoted Centres of Excellence on campus where the students will be exposed to the latest technology platforms, real-life projects and hands-on learning. They will also get a chance to work in virtual–cum-physical labs at the ‘Workshop of the Future’ where they can conceptualise, design, produce, and test real-life products.  One such centre is being established by Siemens PLM Software.

Announcing the launch, Sunil Kant Munjal said, “The focus of BML Munjal University would be practical-oriented education and to foster employability and a range of life skills among students. The university will nurture the spirit of enquiry, creativity, problem solving and innovation. The multi-disciplinary, industry-oriented course curriculum and innovative pedagogy will promote hands-on and cross disciplinary learnings.”

Pawan Munjal said, “Building avenues for entrepreneurship is critical to enabling India’s continued economic growth; and this makes it imperative to promote the spirit of innovation and entrepreneurship among youngsters. Our aim through this initiative is to nurture ethical leaders with practically-oriented knowledge benchmarked with the best global standards to enable them to take up leadership roles in their chosen careers.”

The green university campus will come-up in two phases; and has been designed by HOK, USA who have designed famous universities like University of Buffalo, University of Maryland, to name a few.

The School of Engineering &Technology will offer 300 seats for its BTech (Hons) programme. The School of Management will offer 60 seats each for its MBA and BBA programmes. Keeping the international grading and point systems in mind, BMU will also follow multi-dimensional evaluation process to assess an applicant’s suitability for the courses offered by the university. These include ranking in government-conducted exams, class 12 & class 10 marks, essays, recommendation letters, test of aptitude and attitude and test of hands-on capability.
