Ludhiana, August 13, 2015: Shockwave prevails in the industrial sector as Hero Cycles Founder and chairman O P Munjal (88) breathed his last after a massive heart attack here on Thursday morning. 
He had been admitted in a local private hospital on Monday after he complained of uneasiness and he had been in a critical condition since then.
The deceased industrialist was also known for his philanthropic activities too. Many schools and hospitals were being run under his guidance and patronage.
The United Cycle and Parts Manufacturers Association (UCPMA), Ludhiana, was supposed to hold its meeting at 11.30 am today. However this meeting was put to cancel due to death of Munjal, according to the UCPMA president Charanjit Singh Vishivkarma.
Earlier, in February this year (2015), Sudarshan Munjal, 82, wife of O P Munjal, had passed away after prolonged illness. 
It may be recalled here that on August 26, 2013 Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal had unveiled the biography of OP Munjal. Speaking on this occasion, the Chief Minister had recalled the immense contribution made by Munjal in emerging Ludhiana on the industrial map of the world by manufacturing the Hero Cycles. He had also lauded the role played by Munjal in philanthropic causes like opening of schools and colleges to help the needy. He had said that the life of this great entrepreneur of Punjab would act as a source of inspiration for the many coming generations.
