Health department sensitizes shopkeeper, seeks support in war against Covid

Ludhiana: In view of steep hike in cases of Covid, the awareness teams of Civil Surgeon, Ludhiana today sensetized the shop owners of the densely populated markets of city to make sure that all the shopkeepers strictly adhere to all covid protocols to contain the virus spread in district.


It is pertinent to mention here that  a special awarness team led by Mass Media wing of the health department has been initiated to make the people vigilant of Covid.

The team has been given a special Information Education and Communication (IEC) Van by District Administration, fitted with Public Address System to spread the message of social distancing to maximum number of people.


Civil Surgeon Dr. Sukhjiwan Kakkar said that shopkeepers used to get in touch with hundred of unknown people daily and are in closest contact with people who roam in market, also exchange goods and money which make them exposed to virus more than anybody else.

He said it is also being noticed that people are not paying any heed to the directions given by health department, which is a matter of concern.


Kakkar said that whatever government is repeatedly asking people to wear mask, wash hands and maintaining adequate social distancing for the benefit of people, and citizens should follow such guidelines for the safety of themselves and their families.

District Mass Education and Information Officer Harjinder Singh said people took a sigh of relief when covid cases started to decline. however, now the scenario is changing again and are not in favour of society.

He said, being in market, the shopkeepers are always at risk of getting infected with virus and if any shopkeeper gets infected, he will become virus spreader unknowingly which will put others in danger.
