Ludhiana, March 3, 2019: Dr Shibba Takkar (Associate Professor of Cardiology) delivered lecture on prevalence of heart disease in women. The lecture was delivered at Malwa College of Central Education in Ghumar Mandi.
According to Dr Takkar, women face the threat of heart diseases like their male counterparts. But becoming aware of symptoms and risks attached to women, as well as eating a healthy and balanced diet and regular exercising can help protect them from getting heart diseases.
The most common heart attack symptom in women is some type of pain, pressure or discomfort in the chest but sometimes, women may get a heart attack without any complaint of chest pain and may observe following symptoms unrelated to chest pain, such as neck, jaw, shoulder, upper back or abdominal discomfort, shortness of breath, pain in one or both arms, nausea, vomiting or sweating. Mental stress also may trigger heart attack symptoms in women, said Dr Shibba Takkar.
In general, it is strongly advisable for everyone to do moderate exercise or brisk walking for atleast 30 minutes on most days of the week and also lead a balanced lifestyle by taking proper precaution of her diet and overall well being.
