Haryana Governor assigns Additional Charge of MDU Vice-Chancellor to Prof. Som Nath Sachdeva

The Governor of Haryana and MDU Chancellor, Prof. Aseem Kumar Ghosh, in exercise of the powers conferred under Section 9-A of the MDU Act, 1975, has assigned the additional charge of Vice-Chancellor of Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU), Rohtak, to Kurukshetra University VC Prof. Som Nath Sachdeva. The order shall come into effect from 21 February 2026 and will remain in force until the appointment of a regular Vice-Chancellor.

Rohtak, February 20, 2026: The Governor of Haryana and MDU Chancellor, Prof. Aseem Kumar Ghosh, in exercise of the powers conferred under Section 9-A of the MDU Act, 1975, has assigned the additional charge of Vice-Chancellor of Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU), Rohtak, to Kurukshetra University VC Prof. Som Nath Sachdeva. The order shall come into effect from 21 February 2026 and will remain in force until the appointment of a regular Vice-Chancellor.

According to the notification issued by Haryana Lok Bhavan, Prof. Sachdeva, has been entrusted with this responsibility as an additional charge.

Expressing his gratitude on being assigned the additional charge of Vice-Chancellor, MDU, Prof. Som Nath Sachdeva thanked the Hon’ble Governor Prof. Aseem Kumar Ghosh and the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Haryana, Nayab Singh Saini. He assured that he would work with full dedication and commitment to further strengthen academic quality, promote research advancement and ensure administrative transparency at the University.

It is noteworthy that Prof. Sachdeva has over three decades of distinguished service at National Institute of Technology Kurukshetra, where he contributed extensively in teaching, research and administration. In 2005, he initiated the M.Tech programme in Transportation Engineering and established advanced laboratories to strengthen research infrastructure. He has supervised more than 70 postgraduate and doctoral scholars and published over 100 research papers in reputed national and international journals. He received the Best Paper Award and Gold Medal from the Indian Roads Congress and has been honoured at international conferences for his research contributions.

As Vice-Chancellor of Kurukshetra University, Prof. Sachdeva led the institution to significant achievements. The University was awarded the highest A++ grade by the NAAC. Under his leadership, the University made remarkable progress in sports, research, patents, innovation and cultural activities, with faculty members, students and scholars excelling at national and international levels.

A leading consultant in Highway Engineering, he has also played a key role as Coordinator of the State Technical Agency under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana in Haryana, contributing technical inputs to rural road projects worth approximately ₹2000 crore.
