Hands on Suturing Workshop At SPS Apollo Hospitals

Ludhiana, March 14, 2014: The Department of Plastic Surgery and General Surgery at SPS Apollo Hospitals, Ludhiana jointly conducted a Hands On Workshop on Suturing techniques.

Dr Ashish Gupta, Consultant & Head, Dept of Plastic & Microvascular Surgery said, “This course was a half day interactive and hands on training on the very basic techniques of suturing. It forms the foundations of an MBBS doctor but the pressures of entrance exams force them away from practical training; and these lacunae are confidence shattering as the career progresses. Knowing how to suture various cuts in the emergency the correct way with the correct suture was taught to the MBBS and DNB doctors.” 

The workshop had lectures by Dr. Prafull Arya, Prof & Head, Department of General Surgery on the history and basis of sutures. Dr. H.S. Gill, Sr. Consultant & Co-Ordinator, Dept of Orthopedics gave insights on orthopaedic suturing and the difficulties faced in trauma patients. Dr Khetarpal, Senior Consultant General Surgery and Dr. Vikas Kumar, Kidney Transplant Surgeon were among the faculty who overlooked the 35 delegates learning suturing on special synthetic suturing boards made to imitate normal human skin.
